Boyd is shocked by the man’s request and asks where he is. The shackled man reminds him of their deal and asks Boyd to kill him. As Boyd looks around, noticing skeletons shackled to the walls, the man asks if he is from the Town. Boyd answers yes, and the man says he always thought the Town was the worst part, but then he went through the tree. The man muses about how the Farway Trees always take them to different places, or sometimes leave them stuck or trapped, and that is when “they” get you. Boyd asks who “they” is, but the man says that Boyd has a kind face and asks for his name. Boyd introduces himself, and the man says his name is Martin. Boyd asks Martin how long he has been imprisoned, but he long ago lost count. Martin says it has been so long since he saw kindness, which is why he urges Boyd to leave. Boyd tries to see if he can free him from his shackles, nd notices Martin’s United States Marine Corps tattoo. Boyd reminds him of the “no man left behind” motto, ad refuses to leave him behind, but Martin repeats his request for death.

In the Diner, Donna cocks her shotgun to try and get the crowd under control. Bakta tries to get her to let them go, but Donna tells her that she has no idea what is waiting for them outside and orders them to sit down. Donna says she understands they are scared but promises that they are not the enemy, which is outside. Randall scoffs, and Tillie says that is an odd thing to say. Donna begins to explain their situation, beginning with the Fallen Tree.

Victor and Tabitha wander through the forest after nightfall. With Town being too far, Victor leads her to his hideout at the Clairy’s Canned Produce Truck.

Kristi finds Marielle in the back of the Diner, and she asks Kristi how she could have left, reminding her that they were supposed to have lunch when Kristi disappeared. Marielle says it has been six months, and she and Kristi’s parents went to the police, and the entire time, she was two hours away in what appears to be a cult. Mari tries to leave, but a crying Kristi bars her way and says she understands she is hurt, but needs her to listen. Kristi begins to explain their predicament,

In the rubble of the Matthews’ house, Tom asks Jim how he is doing. Jim answers that he thinks he busted a rib and that it is getting hard to breathe. Jim asks Tom if he ever had to spend the night hiding, and Tom asks if it would make him feel better if he said yes. Brick then wakes up and begins to panic and shout for help, but Jim and Tom tell him to be quiet. Brick says he can’t breathe, and Jim tells him that if he is talking, he can breathe but should do so slowly. Tom tries to go over to help him, but can’t reach. Him. Brick says he doesn’t do well in tight spaces, but Tom assures him that they will get out of this, but they need to be silent.

Boyd continues searching for a way to free Martin, who says even if he could be freed, he does not think he could make it into Town. Boyd offers to cary him, and shows him the Talisman, which can keep the Creatures away. Martin asks him if he thinks the Creatures imprisoned him and says they are simply the tip of the spear. Boyd tries to change the subject and asks Martin where he is from as he tries to free him. Martin says he is wasting time before the two hear a music box. Martin warns him that they are coming, that there are nightmares in the for, and that Boyd has to escape before the music stops. Boyd  finds the music box nearby.

At the Diner, Julie peers outside the window, but Kenny tells her not to draw attention to the house. Kenny sits her down and tells her that Jim’s best chance is to stay exactly where he is until morning. Kenny explains that people used to hide at night before the Talismans, and that all they can do is wait. He offers her tea and asks her what her favorite book is. Julie says he is trying to distract her, and Kenny says he is, but she still has to answer the question. Tillie offers Donna a cup of tea, remarking that she thought life was out of surprises for her. Donna then noticed that that and all is planning something with two other men.

Meanwhile, Brian and Kelly take shelter in the bar and talk about how strange their situation is. Outside the Sheriff’s Office, Fatima tries to call out to the bus passengers to hide and be quiet, and Ellis gets her inside just as two Creatures round the corner. After they shut the door behind them, one of the Creatures says that they are spoiling all the fun. Fatima then sees two of the bus passengers emerge from their hiding place. She tries in vain to warn them. Ellis drags her away from the window as she sees them get surrounded by Creatures. Fatima continues to try and find a way to help them but Ellis tells her there is nothing they can do as they hear the screams of the passengers. Fatima returns to the door and begins shouting at the Creatures outside, who tell her that she will feel better if she comes outside. Fatima begins crying and saying she can’t do this anymore and collapses into Ellis’s arms.

Tom, Jim, and Brick overhear the Creatures, and Brick begins panicking again. Tom and Jim try to reassure him to get him quiet, but Brick begins coughing up blood. Tom tells him to hang on. In the Diner, Randall makes a run for the door, but Kenny stops him, pointing out the screams and howls they are hearing. Randall says they cannot leave the people outside to their deaths and points out that they have guns, which Donna says are useless. As they are distracted by a scream, Randall gets ahold of Kenny’s gun and aims at Kenny, leading to a standoff between him, Naon, Na, and Matthias. Randall demands they open the door, but Donna refuses, saying doing so would put everyone in danger. Randall tries to rally the other passengers, reminding them that Donna shot out their tires. Donna says that they are all scared, but Randall refuses to listen, threatening to shoot K.nny. Donna says he will have to shoot Kenny, and she will have to shoot him. Randall then gets distracted by a knock at the door, and Kenny regains control of his weapon while Donna whacks Randall in the face with the butt of her gun.

Boyd is acanak one of Martin’s chains, as the music box keeps playing. Martin then asks Boyd if he ever thinks Abby was right about it all being a dream. A shocked Boyd asks how he knows about that, but Martin collapses to the ground. Boyd then notices the worms crawling beneath his skin. The music stops, and Martin says they are out of time. Martin cuts Boyd’s arm and holds his arm to the wound, saying that his blood is now Boyd’s, and dies. The dungeon then disappears, with only ruins and the torch in Boyd’s hand left behind. A dog runs up to Boyd before running away, and Boyd begins to follow it.

Kenny makes more tea in the Dine, and offers Marielle some tea as she passes. Kristi finds him and asks what he is doing. He explains that his mother says food cures all ails, so he is making tea. Kristi asks if he is doing all right, and he says it is a hard question to answer right now. He asks how she is and if that is her fiancee, and she answers yes. After taking it in, Kenny tells her to stay with Marielle, saying that they have a long time before sunrise and Marielle will need her.

At the Bar, Brian and Kelly hear the screeches of the Creatures, which Kelly fearfully tries to brush off as a coyote. Brian, having grown up on a farm, insists that they are not human. Kelly says that maybe it’s a prank and begins to panic, but Brian tries to calm her, and says they’re in an adventure. They then hear knocks on the door and voices that say they are passengers on the bus and don’t want to die. Kelly urges Brian not to open the door, but he says they have to help them and lets them inside.

Outside, the Smiley Creature climbs onto the Bus and sits in the driver’s seat. He mimes driving the bus and turns the lights on, and sees two people duck behind the seats in the back. He heads towards them and finds an elderly couple hiding in the back. They are relieved to see him at first, thinking that he is another person. The Creature tells them that they picked a bad spot and attacks them.

In the Forest, Boyd struggles to keep up with the dog and overhears the howl of the creatures. He quickly puts out his torch and hides behind a tree. Meanwhile ,in the truck, Tabitha asks Victor about the Boy in White, and Victor explains that he is his friend but hasn’t seen him for a while until now. Tabitha asks him how long he has lived here, and he says, “A while.” Tabitha asks him how he arrived, and he replies that he does not like to talk about that. Victor then finds a box of chocolate chip cookies and shares them with her. He says there used to be more snacks, but there haven’t been many new people in a few months. Tabitha then asks where he gets all the stuff in the truck, and Victor says some of it is from newcomers, some was here already, and some of it was from his mother, his voice breaking as he describes her. They then hear banging outside the truck and the back opens up, revealing Boyd, who is shocked to see them. Elgin then approaches the truck and begs to be let inside. After seeing that the Creatures are stalking him, they let him inside, shut the door, and hang the Talisman. Boyd points his gun at Elgin and asks who he is. Elgin introduces himself and says he was on the bus, but none of them know about the bus’s arrival.

In the rubble of the Matthews’ house, Brick complains that his chest hurts, but Jim and Tom tell him to hold out. Jim, trying to distract him, asks if he likes pancakes, promising to make them for him when the sun comes up. Tom jokingly asks if Jim thinks a skinny guy like Brick eats pancakes. Brick begins to cry out in pain, and Jim and Tom try to get him quiet, but Brick dies. A Creature then attacks Tom. His screams are heard by the people in the Diner, distressing everyone. Julie tries to run out and help him but is held back by Donna, who holds her as she sobs. Tillie joins them and tries to comfort her.

In the truck, Boyd treats his wound while Elgin sleeps in the back. Victor says he does not trust Elgin. Boyd says they are all still alive, but Victor grimly replies, “For now.” Boyd asks Tabitha how she is doing, and she answers Fine. Boyd tells Victor that he has passed the truck dozens of times and never thought to look in it, asking if Victor furnished it. Victor says that Boyd was supposed to be on a journey and asks if he found what he was looking for. Boyd asks him what he is drawing, and Victor answers things he has seen. Victor explains that it is good to draw them when you see them, so even if you forget, the pictures remember. Victor says he thought many of the things were dreams, but the pictures were remembered. Victor notices that the sun has come up.

In the Diner, the tabletop jukeboxes begin playing Leonard Cohen’s “Who by Fire” as the sun comes up. Julie notices the light from the window and rushes outside to check on her father. They find Tom’s corpse, that got dragged outside the rubble. Julie calls out to her father, who responds, and Donna rallies everyone to help remove the rubble. Bakta goes to check on the bus, and finds the corpses of the elderly couple, and runs outside in horror.

As the four exited the truck, Boyd asked Elgin how many people were on the bus. Elgin answers at least 20-25, and that Donna tried to get them all into the Diner, but it became chaos after the house collapsed. Tabitha asks which house, and Elgin says the one next to the Diner. Realizing it was her house, Tabitha ran off to Town. As Boyd tries to get her to stay with the group, he notices worms crawling beneath his arm. He then turns to Victor, who is staring at him, and tells him to close the truck ,and the three go after Tabitha.
