Late at night, Fatima is surprised to find Elgin in the kitchen. He offers to leave, but she says it is not necessary and asks if he is alright. He answers that he is not certain he deserves to be. Fatima sits next to him and tells him that she does not blame him, and asks him to help her with something.

Meanwhile, Boyd struggles to sleep, plagued by nightmares of the day he had to kill Abby. The next morning, he approaches Acosta, who had been locked in the makeshift cell in the Sheriff’s Station overnight. He orders her to explain herself and to promise not to try anything like stealing the ambulance again. Acosta repeats that she wants to leave, and when Boyd says they are working on that, she recalls that Kristi told her everyone who has tried to find a way out died. She then asks for a bullet so she can commit suicide, alarming Boyd.

At the Clinic, Kristi and Mari prepare Dune's body for the funeral while Sophia watches. Kenny brings her their things from the car. She asks for a minute alone before the service. When everyone leaves, Sophia unwraps the shroud, calling Dune fun before removing one of his teeth as a keepsake to remember him.

In the Bar, Jade struggles to find a breakthrough as Boyd arrives. Frustrated, Jade asks Boyd if he has any LSD in order to unlock the information in his brain. Boyd urges him to take some time and get back to this after the funeral. Jade says he is not going, and the best thing he can do for Tabitha and everyone else is to figure out how to escape. Boyd warns him to be careful, as the message at the Barn was serious.

At the Church, the Matthews arrive for the funeral. Boyd speaks first, acknowledging that days like this are not easy. He is interrupted by the flock of crows, which begins squawking and flying overhead, making everyone uneasy, including Sophia. At the Diner, Tabitha urges her children to eat, and they are soon met by Victor, who gifts them a picture he drew of their family. Ethan asks to go to Colony House with Victor, to which Tabitha reluctantly agrees.

Kenny brings Sophia coffee, and she asks if the crows normally behave like that. He answers no, prompting Sophia to ask when things changed, recalling that Sara said that things were safe for a while. Kenny estimates that it all started around the time his father and the Pratts were killed, which was followed shortly afterwards by the Matthews and Jade’s arrival in two separate cars. This piques Sophia’s interest, but before she can ask more Boyd pulls Kenny aside. Julie approaches her, offering condolences for her father’s death.  

Boyd asks Kenny how Sophia is doing, and Kenny admits he does not know, observing that she often prays. They are interrupted when Julie angrily shouts at Sophia for insinuating that it is her family’s fault that things have gotten bad in the Township. Boyd and Kenny move to defuse the situation, and Julie asks Kenny if he told her that, and he stammers that he did not mean that.  Julie storms out, followed by Tabitha. Inside, Kenny tells Sophia that they need to talk.

As Ellis and Fatima return to Colony House, Ellis notes that they haven’t talked much about what happened to her. She explains that she is trying to be okay, but does not know how to let go. Ellis gets an idea, and tells her to wait for him. She spots Elgin from a distance carrying a large carton, and nods at him.

Inside, Victor shows Ethan that his father has joined him as a roommate. Victor tells Ethan can talk to him if he is afraid. Ethan asks if there are any lakes in the Township. Victor notes that there’s the Brundles, but he thinks the place creepy. Ethan insists, telling Victor that he will tell him why if he takes him to the lake.

Tabitha returns to her house, depositing Victor’s drawing in a drawer, where she finds her old drawing of the Lighthouse. She takes the page and begins writing on the back. Meanwhile, Julie gathers supplies at the supply shed by the Bar, and is met by Randall, who is worried that she will return to the Dungeon. Julie reveals that she plans on going to her old house. Randall warns it’s not safe, and Julie explains that she wants to find Ethan’s books to learn if she can control her Storywalking abilities to save her father. She offers Randall an ultimatum: he can help her or leave her alone, and he chooses the former.

At the Sheriff’s Station, Boyd approaches Acosta, telling her he needs help with something if she wants that bullet. Meanwhile, Ethan and Victor observe Jade floating in the Brundles. Ethan wants to leave, but Victor reminds him that he promised to tell him what he was looking for. Ethan explains he is looking for the magical Lake of Tears, which his father told him  is present in the Township. Victor asks Jade to help them.

At the rubble of the Matthew’s House, Julie remembers how she stood at that spot while her trapped father told her everything would be fine. Randall offers to descend into the rubble instead.

At the Church, Sophia explains that the biblical Achan caused the Israelites to suffer after he offended God. Kenny reprimands her, telling her that everyone is one day away from losing hope before saying that they need to find a place for her to live. Sophia asks if she could live with Sara, who was kind to her. Kenny does not think it’s a good idea, and Sophia asks if it is because of the murders, explaining that she heard people talking. However, she believes that Sara is kind. Kenny warns that she has no idea what kind of person Sara is.

Randall descends into the house, and Julie tells him to look for a blue bag. In the Colony House basement, Boyd explains to Acosta that while most of the storage areas are filled with things they thought would be useful, while everything else was put in the basement. Boyd instructs her to analyze the belongings as if it were a crime scene and come up with a story. Acosta refuses, even when Boyd tries to explain that he hoped to put her training as a cop to find something they may have overlooked, and she demands again to know why he wants her to do this. Boyd admits that she reminds him of someone he could have helped but did not, and he does not want to repeat the mistake. He tells her to think of all the people she might save if she helps him, promising to discuss the bullet later.

Tabitha searches for Donna at Colony House, and leaves the note she wrote on the drawing of the Lighthouse. Henry approaches her, asking if she needs something and offering support. Worried about her, he insists on accompanying her. After questioning her, Tabitha admits that she is trying to return to the Bottle Tree and the Lighthouse. Henry warns her that Dale died trying, and insists on coming with her to see the place where his wife died.

Ellis leads Fatima to the car graveyard- a clearing where a number of old cars have been deposited. He explains that he wants to use the cars as a makeshift “rage room.”  Ellis reminds her that she helped him out of his depression after his mother’s death, and wants to return the favor, offering her a bat and a crowbar. Fatima chooses the bat, and begins smashing cars.

As they walk, Jade struggles to understand how the supposedly fictional Lake of Tears is supposed to be in the Township. Ethan points out that his mother thought she invented the red rocks from her dreams, but they turned out to be real, theorizing he did not know the Lake was real. As they walk past a set of ruins, Victor freezes when he notices a discarded yellow suit before running away in fear as a crow squawks nearby.

In the ruins of the Matthews’ House, Randall is startled by the sight of Brick’s corpse, but spots the book bag. Meanwhile, Kenny brings Sophia to Sara’s house, asking if she can live with her. Sara, surprised, agrees. Meanwhile, Julie checks on Randall, who has found the books.

As Ellis and Fatima return to Colony House, she admits she feels better, which Ellis calls a start. She thanks him for the rage room before leaving to rest, while Ellis prepares for a food run to the Settlement. Inside, Fatima finds Elgin in his room, emptying the carton full of clay onto his floor. He asks if it will be enough, but Fatima tells him they will need more.

At the Bottle Tree, Henry marvels at the Bottle Tree, remarking that it looks identical to the one she made, except for the opening. Tabitha moves to enter, but Henry prevents her, warning that if Tabitha is wrong, she could die, leaving her children alone. Tabitha explains that she left a note for Donna, but Henry continues to block her, telling her that her children need her. The two are interrupted by the Boy in White. Tabitha asks how she can get back to the Lighthouse, however the Boy speaks in cryptic answers, warning that they are running out of time. The Boy disappears, and the two overhear Ethan calling for Victor, whom they all find huddled in fear. Henry comforts his son, while Jade finds mushrooms near a tree.

Boyd visits Abby’s grave, admitting it has been a while. He remarks that things are changing, as is he, and while he does not like who he is becoming, but he does not know who else to be. He tells her that they feel close to a breakthrough, but it will not matter if he cannot hold everyone together. He asks Abby for help, but is grabbed by an arm that drags his hand down. Boyd wrenches free, terrified.
